These terms cover your use of OzReel. The most important point: OzReel is a helpful guide, but official fisheries authorities are always the final word on the rules.
LAST UPDATED · 3 JUNE 2026 · EFFECTIVE · 3 JUNE 2026
Read this first. OzReel's identifications, measurements and rule checks are estimates to help you decide. They are not legal advice. You are responsible for confirming the current rules with the official fisheries authority for your location before keeping any fish.
01 Acceptance
By downloading, accessing or using OzReel you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. If you're using OzReel on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to accept these terms for it.
02 Guidance, not authority
OzReel provides species identification, length estimates and a summary of fishing rules for your area. This information is compiled from public sources and provided for convenience. It may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your exact circumstances.
Official fisheries authorities always prevail. Rules change, seasons close, and local closures apply. Before you keep, take or fish for any species, confirm the current regulations with the relevant state or territory authority. OzReel is not a substitute for that.
03 Using OzReel
You agree to use OzReel lawfully and responsibly. You must not:
Use the app to break fishing laws or take protected, undersized or out-of-season species.
Reverse engineer, scrape, or resell any part of the service.
Upload content that's unlawful, or that you don't have the right to share.
Interfere with the app's security or normal operation.
04 Accounts
You can use core features as a guest. If you create an account to sync your logbook, you're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised use.
05 Your content
Your catch photos and logbook entries remain yours. By saving them to a synced account, you grant us a limited licence to store and process them solely to provide the service to you — for example, to display your logbook and improve identification accuracy through anonymised, aggregated analysis. We claim no ownership of your catches.
06 Our content
The OzReel name, logo, app design, species catalogue presentation and software are owned by OzReel and protected by intellectual property laws. You may use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes; you may not copy or redistribute our content without permission.
07 Disclaimer
OzReel is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We don't warrant that identifications, measurements or rule summaries are accurate, complete or current, or that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
08 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OzReel is not liable for any fines, penalties, loss or damage arising from your use of the app — including from relying on an identification, measurement or rule summary. You are responsible for your own compliance with fishing regulations. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to resupplying the service or the cost of doing so.
09 Termination
You can stop using OzReel and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you breach these terms or use the app unlawfully. Sections that by their nature should survive — such as disclaimers and limitation of liability — continue after termination.
10 Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia and the state or territory in which OzReel is operated. The courts there have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. We may update these terms; material changes will be notified in the app, and continued use means you accept them.
